Why Openness to New Learning Leads to Greater Confidence

inspirational-quotes-1

You’ll discover and experience great benefits in your life- as you become open to new learning.

The key thing is to apply what you’ve learned.

I think this is what leads to outstanding results- and higher confidence levels in each area of our lives.

I read an interesting quote the other day.  It’s from Anthony J. D’Angelo, and I thought I’d share it since it’s applicable with today’s blog post:

Your mind is like a parachute.  It only works if it is open.

It’s interesting how this works.

In the past, I’ve often been skeptical of new ideas.  I had operated more from a “closed-mind mentality” rather than having an “open mind” about things.

In this post, I’d like to share a few benefits for being “open to new learning”.

My hope is that you’ll find these ideas compelling, and that you’ll gain greater enthusiasm for living life to its fullest.

An Open Mind can lead to Discovery and Life Change

As I briefly mentioned, knowledge plus application is a powerful combination.

Consider the individual who has issues with debt.

She goes out and purchases good books and resources to learn about managing debt successfully.

She learns about great strategies and ideas that she can apply to her own situation.

She then applies what she’s learned, and in the short-term ends up alleviating much of her debt.

She has the knowledge and tools to make a great difference in her life.  She has ended up discovering new information that will help her. Then, by taking action, she ends up changing her life.

There’s an old saying that knowledge is power.  I would say that applied knowledge is powerful.

If you’re struggling in a certain life area, I encourage you to make learning and application a daily habit.

Once you’ve opened your mind up to new ideas, the great discovery, life change and increased confidence will be all yours- and no one can take that away from you.

An Open Mind can help you Recognize the Value of Gaining Feedback

As I’ve ventured out onto a new path of building a home-based business, I needed to learn a valuable lesson.

I’ve begun to recognize the value of gaining feedback.

Discovering that “no question is a dumb question” has helped me gain confidence as I seek solutions.

It takes courage to realize that we don’t have all the answers.

I’ll even admit that I don’t have all the answers as I write this blog.

Starting out initially, I was almost “timid” about asking questions or obtaining feedback.

My initial thoughts were “what if this is a dumb question?” and “what if they reject me for asking such a thing?”

Recognize the power of asking questions.

As you seek solutions and get support from others, you’ll gain valuable feedback about your ideas, approach or strategy in moving forward.

This can help you make progress in leaps and bounds in contrast to the usual incremental progress you may make on your own.

An Open Mind helps us Alter our Outlook on Life

Whenever you step outside your “comfort zone”, it’s a scary proposition.

You end up facing some “unknowns” in life.

There are no assurances of success.

The path ahead isn’t smooth.  You may face obstacles and challenges along the way.

However, if you approach the venture outside of your comfort zone as an “adventure” or “learning experience”, you’ll be able to see your goal in a new light.

You’ll be able to see possibilities with your plans, goals and dreams.

You’ll ask yourself “how can I accomplish my goal?” which will open up new ideas.

Asking yourself “how” will move you forward towards achieving your goal.

It’s all about coming up with answers, and not getting stuck on getting things “just right” before you proceed.

When you have an open mind, you’ll be receptive to new ideas and the possibility that life can be more of an adventure to be lived, rather than just as a “daily grind”.

I’ve opened my mind to this perspective.  I can tell you first-hand that the quality of my own life has improved.

Be encouraged today to have an open mind.  It’ll make a great difference for you as well.

Openness to New Learning Helps You Develop Confidence

Looking back on the past, I think I had two erroneous views about confidence.

I thought that confidence was an inborn character trait.  To me, it was the type of characteristic each person would have or didn’t have.

I knew I didn’t have it.

My second false view of confidence was that it had to be the type of personal trait people could only have after they became successful.

I would see someone famous or in a high profile career and think “He has been successful, so he has every reason to be confident”.

I didn’t realize that my confidence level was something I could work on or develop.

For instance, you can develop confidence when you:

  • develop new skills
  • gain new knowledge
  • apply the new knowledge you gain
  • achieve short-term goals
  • build your level of self-approval as you make progress

You can only develop new skills and gain and apply new knowledge when you’re willing to learn.

Small successes only the way leads to greater confidence.

With each short-term goal you achieve, it’s a great idea to affirm and celebrate the progress you’ve made.

You can then continue to move forward toward a great future as you achieve greater success.

My hope is that you’ll always be open to new learning throughout your life.  That way, life will never lose its sense of adventure.

This is my wish for each reader of this post.

Even in our difficulties and challenges, we can find great meaning and purpose.

In my next post, I’ll share a few benefits you’ll experience as you go beyond your comfort zone.

Until then, have a great day.
