Boost Your Motivation with a Powerful Purpose Statement

This morning, I spent a few moments to think about my purpose statement for my blog and online business.

My purpose statement card says:

My mission is to use my love of learning in business and personal development to inspire others to live their lives with purpose, joy and freedom.

My purpose statement inspires me.  I was able to create it with the help of Jack Canfield’s book called The Success Principles.  His second principle called “Be Clear Why You’re Here” was most valuable to me and gave me some great ideas, insights, clarity and encouragement.

I highly recommend that you go out and get a copy of Canfield’s outstanding book.  You will be encouraged to go for your goals and dreams in after you read about the effective and practical principles in his book.

Today, I’d like to give you three benefits for creating your own purpose statement.

Your Purpose Statement will Inspire You When It Reflects Your Deepest Values

You will benefit most from your personal mission statement by creating it – and by reviewing it on a daily basis.

I become more focused and motivated when I feed my mind with the things that inspire me.

My purpose statement definitely fits this category.

Lately, I’ve gotten “off track” at times with my goals.  I’ve thought about how much more inspired I would have been if I’d done a daily review of my mission.

My purpose statement inspires me because it reflects my interests and passions.  I enjoy learning about the topics of business and personal development.  I want to learn, grow and share my knowledge with others, including you, who I consider to be a friend and valued reader of this blog.

I have values that I desire to adhere in my personal life and my online business.

Sometimes, though, it’s difficult to really define the things that are most important to us, isn’t it?

We can all use a bit of help in the area of defining our values.  Our education or grade school system might not address this part of our lives.  We may want this type of information, but will end up looking for it on our own.

I found a few resources that were really valuable to me.

A few years back, I feel grateful that I was able to create a document about my 1 year, 3 year and 5 year goals, along with the corresponding rewards I would experience from accomplishing them.  I find this document to be very inspiring.

I had noticed a pattern with these goals.  As I thought about them, I realized that achieving them would fulfill my most deeply cherished values.

I would advise you first to come up with an inspiring goals list, and define some rewards you would experience when you’re successful with them.

An excellent resource for prioritizing your values can be found at:

I am grateful for people such as Nicholas Weiler, who helps us define the things that are most important to us.  His resource gives us many good ideas and a glossary of definitions.

I’m looking forward to helping you further an update of my upcoming e-book, called “Revitalize Your Life with 8 Lifestyle Changes”.  My seventh chapter on the topic of values provides some very good guidance on this topic – along with many definitions that will really help you clarify and identify the things that are most meaningful to you.

If You Choose Correctly, Your Purpose Statement Can Inspire Faith and Belief

Ask any Olympic athlete about the power of faith and belief.

If they don’t have faith or belief in their chances of a gold medal, or even in their potential for success, they won’t get very far.

In fact, they probably wouldn’t even get up early or even consistently do the training they would need to do.

If you don’t believe in the value of your purpose or your goals, then you really won’t get very far in life.  As a result, you won’t take the necessary steps or actions to achieve your dreams in life.

Unfortunately, you may encounter people who don’t agree with your goals or your purpose in life.  There’s always a few “naysayers” in life – - those who say “It can’t be done”, “Why bother?” or “You can’t do that!”

I would encourage you each day to develop a high level of motivation and belief in your purpose.

How would you develop this motivation and belief?  That is a great question.

First, I would suggest that you create and do a daily review of your inspiring purpose statement.  Make a conscious choice to believe that it’s valuable and worth pursuing in your life.

Once you develop this “belief habit”, you’re well on your way to achieving your dreams in life.  If you feel unhappy or regretful about your past failures, you will become inspired as you begin to achieve a few of your short-term goals.

Lately, I have started to meet more of my short-term objectives.  I have felt much better about my own progress.  This is a motivational tip that really works.

I am beginning to believe more and more in the value of my purpose and goals in life.

Faith and belief are like muscles in the body.  They need to be exercised on a daily basis.

A Purpose Statement becomes a type of “Guide” for Our Daily Actions

Many times, I felt a bit “disconnected”. I felt aimless and I ended up drifting from job to job after getting my business degree.

Wanting to start my own business, I started pursuing and exploring one business idea after another.  So many marketers talk about “the latest and greatest product” that I needed to buy.

In the past, I found it to be uneasy about the lack of direction my life was taking.

I started to lack focus and had nothing to guide my daily business activities.

Once I created and developed my purpose statement, I felt more focused and productive with my online business.

I needed to do a “reality check” and think about the consequences of lacking purpose.

If you don’t even have your own mission statement or goals for your life, you will easily drift your way through life.  You’ll find very little success, accomplishment, meaning or purpose on a daily basis.

In contrast, your life can take on a whole new sense of enjoyment and fulfillment when you create a purpose statement, review it and then take actions that align with your overall purpose.

We all need a bit of time for relaxation or rejuvenation.  However, we all need to stay focused in life.

If you tend to act and behave in a manner that doesn’t fit your overall purpose, you’ll end up feeling a sense of regret later on. If you feel discouraged by a sense of regret in your life, I can relate to you.  I still have this sense of “lost time”.

I’d like to encourage you to live according to your greater or “higher purpose”.  The growth, satisfaction, purpose and meaning you will discover will be something you would never trade or give away in a million years.

Your life, goals, purpose and dreams are well worth it.  Go after them and live this day fully.  Time won’t slow down for any of us to catch up.  Today and this present moment are words we need to value more than we really do.

This post has been longer than I intended. Please be encouraged to live according to your own grand purpose.

Creating and reviewing your purpose or mission statement has these outstanding benefits:

  • It inspires you when it reflects your deeply held values
  • It inspires faith and belief in the value of pursuing your goals and dreams
  • It can operate as a valuable guide for your daily actions

Until my next post, have a great day.

I like the image of the ocean below these paragraphs, although the photo seems to have been taken on a cloudy day.  It has good advice I would have liked to have followed, but each day is a new day and a brand new opportunity to make a new start.

The quote says “Learn to overcome your fears.  Face reality, achieve your goalsFill your life with love, joy, & peace.”
